About Portfolio Logic
Portfolio Logic is a Washington, D.C.–based fund that makes concentrated investments in a small number of companies with high growth potential and strong management teams. The Portfolio Logic team brings a strategic and operational focus to its investments, rooted in the extensive experience of its partners consulting for and successfully running high growth companies.
Jeff Zients, the firm’s Managing Partner, contributed the majority of the fund’s capital. The firm has a long-term investment horizon with no requirement to exit after a finite period of time.
Portfolio Logic has a broad charter spanning various industries and public and private investments, with a particular emphasis on health care.
Selected investments and areas of focus include:
- In August 2007, Portfolio Logic led the transaction to take private PSA Healthcare. PSA is the largest pediatric home health provider in the United States, annually serving more than 4,000 patients in 18 states.
- Portfolio Logic has been an investor since 2004 in BestPractices, Inc., a leading provider of outsourced emergency department staffing that has won numerous awards for customer service and innovation. Since Portfolio Logic’s investment in 2004, BestPractices has nearly tripled in size.
- Portfolio Logic is investing in post secondary education with a focus on health care. The fund believes the imbedded base of schools is not sufficient to meet the future demand, especially for nurses. By leveraging technology and existing relationships with top health systems, Portfolio Logic plans to build a premier national healthcare education company.
- Portfolio Logic co-led the acquisition in 2005 of Timbuk2 Designs, Inc., a rapidly growing manufacturer and marketer of messenger bags and related soft goods. Timbuk2 was founded by a San Francisco bike messenger and has built on that heritage to become a leader in performance oriented gear.
